Twin safari parks in 100-hectare land near SOU; CZAI approval awaited
April 11, 2024
Kevadia: The Gujarat government’s proposal for a “twin-adventure” for both lions and tigers in Kevadia, is currently under review by the Central Zoo Authority of India (CZAI).
A senior official told a newspaper that the plan involves establishing separate yet interconnected safari parks for lions and tigers near the Statue of Unity, enabling tourists to experience both species in a single excursion.
It is learned that after CZAI approval, eight lions will be sourced from Sakkarbaug Zoo, while tigers will be obtained from other zoos nationwide in exchange for lions. Each safari park will have two males, two females, and four cubs of each species. Tourists can opt for either a bus or an open jeep ride to view the animals.
Reportedly, the safaris will cover a 100-hectare area located around 6km away from the Statue of Unity. These safari zones will resemble the Devaliya Safari Park and feature exhibits akin to those at the ZSL London Zoo. Additionally, the lion safari intends to showcase how lions coexist with humans in Gir.DeshGujarat
