Widespread rains lash Gujarat; Saurashtra records extremely heavy downpour

Ahmedabad: Rainy weather prevailed in many areas of the state on Thursday, with Saurashtra recording the highest rainfall. According to the data of the State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC), Gandhinagar, more than 8 to 10 inches of rain fell in several talukas of Junagadh district in the 14 hours from 6 am to 8 pm. As many as 157 talukas received rain today in the state.
The highest rainfall of 10.75 inches (extremely heavy rainfall, as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD)) was recorded in Mangrol taluka of Junagadh district. This was followed by 10.71 inches in Keshod, 8.90 inches in Manavadar, 8.58 inches in Maliya Hatina and 7.68 inches in Sutrapada of Gir Somnath.
In other areas, 7.05 inches of rain fell in Jamjodhpur, 6.61 inches in Patan-Veraval, 5.67 inches in Kutiyana, 4.06 inches in Visavadar and 3.90 inches in Vanthali.
In South Gujarat, Olpad in Surat district recorded 3.70 inches of rain, while Kodinar in Gir Somnath recorded 3.66 inches, Upleta in Rajkot recorded 3.58 inches, Talala recorded 3.07 inches, Vijapur in Mehsana recorded 2.95 inches and Sinor in Vadodara recorded 2.95 inches.
In addition, Dhoraji in Rajkot recorded 2.76 inches, Garbada in Dahod recorded 2.68 inches, Kunkawav-Vadia in Amreli recorded 2.60 inches, Junagadh city recorded 2.44 inches, Hansot in Bharuch recorded 2.28 inches, Mendarda recorded 2.24 inches, Valia in Bharuch recorded 2.05 inches and Bayad in Aravalli recorded 2.01 inches.
Several other talukas of the state also received 1 to 2 inches of rain, bringing coolness to the atmosphere in many areas. The rain caused waterlogging, especially in the low-lying areas of Saurashtra, while the Meteorological Department has predicted that rain will continue in various parts of the state in the coming days.
