July 02, 2026
Vadodara: A driver of an electric bus in Vadodara has been dismissed after a video allegedly showing him filming a social media reel while driving went viral, raising concerns over passenger safety and distracted driving.
The video, which has since been deleted, allegedly showed the driver using his mobile phone while operating one of the city’s newly introduced air-conditioned electric buses under the Centre’s PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme. The clip spread rapidly across social media, drawing criticism from users over the driver’s conduct.
Following the viral video, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) issued a notice to JBM, the company that supplies buses and drivers for the city’s electric bus fleet operated by Vadodara Green Mobility Vehicle Ltd., the civic body’s special purpose vehicle.

VMC official Jatan Badheka said the corporation viewed the incident as a serious breach of public safety. “We were informed that the video had gone viral on social media and immediately served a notice to the operator. JBM has terminated the driver and assured us that such incidents will not happen again,” Badheka said.
He further stated that all drivers had been trained before the electric buses were commissioned and were clearly instructed to follow operational guidelines, including a strict prohibition on using mobile phones while driving.
Following the notice, the company sacked the driver. According to reports, the termination order was issued on the driver’s birthday. DeshGujarat
