History-Sheeter Attacks Ahmedabad JCP Sharad Singhal with Knife; Shot in Self-Defence

Ahmedabad: Joint Commissioner of Police (JCP) of Crime Branch Sharad Singhal was attacked with a knife during the interrogation of a notorious accused arrested in an illegal arms case in the Chandola area of the city. After the attack, JCP fired from his service revolver in self-defense, injuring the accused in the leg. The senior cop and the accused were both rushed to the hospital for treatment.
According to the police, based on information received about illegal arms trafficking, the Crime Branch arrested Mohammad Kaleem alias Bhaiya Akbarkhan Pathan, a resident of Isanpur. Police say that four country-made pistols and cartridges were recovered from the possession of the accused.
The accused was being interrogated by JCP Sharad Singhal and Police Inspector I.N. Ghasura. During that time, the accused suddenly became furious and attacked JCP Sharad Singhal with the knife he had. The JCP was injured in the attack.
During the ensuing scuffle, JCP Sharad Singhal fired from his service revolver, in which the accused was shot in the leg. Both were immediately shifted to the hospital for treatment.
JCP Sharad Singhal said that PI I.N. Ghasura’s team received information that a notorious accused named Kaleem had come to the Chandola area with weapons. On the basis of this, the accused was arrested, and four country-made pistols and cartridges brought from Madhya Pradesh were seized from him.
He said that during interrogation, the accused attacked him with a knife kept in the kitchen. He is currently safe after treatment, while the accused is also undergoing treatment.
According to the police, two separate offences, including under the Arms Act and attempt to murder, will be registered against the accused.
