Above-Normal Temperatures Persist Across Gujarat; Ahmedabad, Rajkot Hottest at 41.9°C
June 08, 2026
Ahmedabad: Ahmedabad continued to experience intense summer conditions, recording a maximum temperature of 41.9°C on Sunday, which was 1°C above the seasonal average. The city was jointly the hottest place in Gujarat, along with Rajkot, as residents grappled with persistent heat and rising humidity levels.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Ahmedabad recorded a minimum temperature of 29.9°C, nearly 2°C above normal. Relative humidity stood at 62% in the morning and 36% in the evening, adding to the discomfort despite the dry weather conditions.
The city has witnessed temperatures of 40°C or above on 55 of the last 58 days, highlighting the prolonged spell of hot weather across the region.
While no significant change in maximum temperatures is expected across Gujarat over the next seven days, weather conditions may begin to shift as the southwest monsoon advances. With the monsoon already covering parts of Maharashtra, it is likely to reach South Gujarat around June 15.
The IMD has indicated the possibility of light to moderate rainfall in parts of South Gujarat towards the end of the week, which could provide some relief from the prevailing heat.
Among other major cities in the state, Surendranagar recorded a maximum temperature of 41.5°C, followed by Gandhinagar at 41.0°C, Vallabh Vidyanagar at 40.3°C, Deesa at 40.2°C, Vadodara at 39.6°C, and Bhavnagar at 39.7°C. Coastal areas remained relatively cooler, with Surat recording 35.9°C, Veraval 34.4°C, Dwarka 33.7°C, and Diu 34.8°C. DeshGujarat
