Peak Power Demand in Gujarat Hits Record High of 29,000 MW
June 30, 2026
Gandhinagar: Gujarat has recorded its highest-ever electricity demand, with the state’s peak power requirement touching 29,000 MW on Monday, setting a new record.
The previous highest demand was recorded last year at 26,600 MW. Just last week, the state’s electricity demand had crossed the 27,000 MW mark for a day. That record has now been surpassed as soaring heat and humidity have led to a sharp rise in power consumption across the state.
Despite the record-breaking demand, officials said the power supply remained under control. During Monday’s peak demand, the state procured only 700 MW of electricity from the power exchange, indicating that the existing power generation capacity was sufficient to meet most of the demand.
As per the reports, the situation remained stable due to strong generation from solar and wind power, along with a substantial share of electricity from the Central sector, including NTPC. On Monday, Gujarat received around 9,000 MW from the Central sector, while solar and wind power contributed approximately 7,000 MW and 4,000 MW, respectively.
Power generation from state-owned plants through GSECL also remained robust, supplying around 4,000 MW on Monday. In addition, the state received around 1,300 MW from Adani, 1,000 MW from Tata’s Coastal Gujarat Power Company, and 800 MW from Essar.
Officials said electricity consumption has also risen due to increased power supply to the agricultural sector amid the ongoing shortfall in rainfall across Gujarat. On Monday, around 105 million units of electricity were supplied to agriculture, equivalent to a load of about 10,500 MW, to ensure irrigation for farmers and help protect standing crops. DeshGujarat
