On July 2, a red alert will remain in place for Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad and Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli. An orange alert has been issued for Narmada, Bharuch, Tapi, Amreli and Bhavnagar, while the rest of Gujarat will remain under a yellow warning for rain and thunderstorms.
On July 3, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad and Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli will continue under a red alert, while Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Amreli and Bhavnagar will be under an orange alert. The rest of the state will remain under a yellow warning for rain and thunderstorms.
On July 4, only Narmada, Tapi and Dang will be under a red alert, with the likelihood of extremely heavy rainfall. Chhota Udepur, Bharuch, Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Amreli and Bhavnagar will remain under an orange alert.
On July 5, Dang, Tapi and Valsad will continue under a red alert, while Narmada, Navsari, Amreli and Bhavnagar will be under an orange alert. Additionally, the entire state will remain under a yellow warning for moderate thunderstorms with lightning and surface winds of 40–50 kmph, accompanied by light to moderate rain.
Thereafter, the intensity of the rainfall is expected to subside slightly, with no red alerts issued for July 6 and 7. However, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi and Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli will remain under an orange alert for very heavy rainfall. Meanwhile, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch and Surat, along with the Saurashtra districts of Amreli and Bhavnagar, will remain under a yellow alert with the possibility of heavy rain.
According to the IMD, the active weather conditions are being driven by multiple favourable synoptic systems across the region. On July 1, the southwest monsoon advanced further into more parts of Gujarat, covering additional areas of the state along with the entire Daman and Diu region. The monsoon has also progressed into more parts of the North Arabian Sea, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, and parts of Haryana and Punjab.
The weather office said conditions remain favourable for the monsoon to advance further into the remaining parts of Gujarat and adjoining regions over the next two days.
Several weather systems are contributing to the enhanced rainfall activity. An offshore trough extending from south Gujarat to Karnataka continues to remain active, while the seasonal monsoon trough stretching from Punjab to the North Bay of Bengal also persists. In addition, an upper air cyclonic circulation over Saurashtra and its neighbourhood is supporting rainfall over parts of the state.
The IMD has also indicated that an upper air cyclonic circulation over the North Bay of Bengal is likely to develop into a low pressure area around July 3. A trough extending from this system to the northeast Arabian Sea across Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Gujarat is expected to further strengthen monsoon activity over western India.
The department added that southwesterly to westerly winds prevailing over Gujarat at lower levels are creating favourable conditions for widespread rainfall across the state over the coming days. DeshGujarat
