Gujarat govt scraps result-based grant allocation policy for schools

Gandhinagar: Gujarat’s state education department has decided to terminate its policy of determining government grant allocations to grant-in-aid secondary and higher secondary schools based on yearly academic results.

Teachers and administrations of grant-in-aid schools had been urging the elimination of this policy, asserting that it did not align with the best interests of the students. State Education Minister Kuber Dindor communicated this decision via a tweet, following an extensive meeting attended by education department officials.

The policy of granting funds based on academic performance was introduced in 2009. According to this policy, schools achieving annual results below 30% received no grant, while schools within the 31%-50% result range were granted 40% of the amount. Schools with success rates ranging from 51% to 100% were granted funding proportionate to their success percentage.

However, the education department will now need to unveil a new method for disbursing grants based on class sections and student numbers. DeshGujarat
