From Party Office Peon to BJP Corporator: Ramesh Bhil Wins in Mehsana Civic Polls

Mehsana: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a dominant victory in the first-ever elections of the Mehsana Municipal Corporation (MMC) in Gujarat, winning 47 out of 52 seats. The results were declared on Tuesday.

Among the winners, 50-year-old Rameshchandra Bhil from the Tribal community stood out for his unique background. Bhil has been working as a peon at the Mehsana district BJP headquarters, ‘Panchamrut’, for the past 28 years. He was elected from Ward No. 13 along with three other BJP candidates, securing 4,310 votes from a seat reserved for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates.

For nearly three decades, Bhil has been a constant presence at the party office. His candidature from Ward No. 13 was seen as recognition of his long-standing loyalty and dedication to the party. With this victory, a party worker serving as a peon has now risen to become a corporator.

Mehsana is among nine newly formed municipal corporations in the state that went to polls for the first time. The civic body comprises 13 wards and a total of 52 seats, of which the Congress won five.

Expressing happiness over his victory, Bhil said he intends to work for the common people of the city. He lives in Mehsana with his wife and parents.

On whether he would resign from his job at the party office, Bhil said he would continue in his role while serving the public. He added that the party office played a significant role in shaping his journey and that he has no plans to leave it. Bhil also recalled veteran BJP leaders from the Mehsana district, including the late Jashubhai Patel and the late Jayanti Barot. DeshGujarat
