Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik Appointed as New Gujarat DGP

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government has appointed Gyanendar Singh Malik, the Commissioner of Police, Ahmedabad City, as the new Director General and Inspector General of Police (DGP) of Gujarat.

According to a notification issued by the Home Department, Malik, a 1993-batch IPS officer of the Gujarat cadre, has been appointed to the vacant cadre post of Director General and Inspector General of Police, Gujarat State, with immediate effect.

The appointment places him in the Apex Scale (Level 17) of the Pay Matrix with a fixed salary of Rs 2.25 lakh per month.

Born on November 15, 1965, Malik joined the Indian Police Service on January 8, 1994. A native of Haryana, he holds degrees in B.Tech. (Electronics) and LL.B. During his career, he also served as Additional Director General (North) of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) in New Delhi while on deputation to the Government of India.

Malik has held several key positions in Gujarat Police and most recently served as the Commissioner of Police, Ahmedabad City. He is scheduled to retire from service in November 2028.

Since January 1, 2026, Dr. K.L.N. Rao has been serving as the in-charge Director General of Police (DGP) of Gujarat. After holding the additional charge for nearly five months, the state government has now appointed a full-time DGP.
