Ahmedabad Sizzles Above 40°C as Monsoon Progress Remains Stalled

Ahmedabad: The city has continued to record daytime temperatures above 40°C for over a month now. On Monday, the maximum temperature of the city stood at 40.4°C, which was 2.2 degrees above the seasonal average.

Among other cities, Bhavnagar recorded the highest maximum temperature at 40.9°C, followed by Ahmedabad at 40.4°C and VV Nagar at 40.3°C. Surat and Rajkot recorded 35.4°C and 39°C, respectively, but stayed below 40°C.

Meanwhile, the minimum temperature in Ahmedabad stood at 29°C, which was 1.6 degrees higher than normal. In Surat, it was 28.8°C, and in Rajkot, it was relatively cooler at 26.8°C.

According to meteorological observations, an upper-air cyclonic circulation persists over southeast Pakistan and adjoining southwest Rajasthan. Meanwhile, a fresh western disturbance is expected to affect northwest India from June 18.

The northern limit of the monsoon currently passes through locations including Harnai and Solapur in Maharashtra, while the southwest monsoon has shown little progress over the past few days, meaning that there will be a delay in the onset of the monsoon in the state.

The state weather forecast suggests that maximum temperatures are unlikely to change significantly over the next week. However, parts of South Gujarat could receive light to moderate rainfall later this week. DeshGujarat
