Monsoon Rains Intensify in Gujarat; INCOIS Issues High Wave Alert for Dwarka Coast

Ahmedabad: Monsoon has gained momentum in the state with the beginning of July. During the last 24 hours, many areas of the state have received good rainfall, while between 6 am and 10 am today, rain was also recorded in 44 talukas. According to the data from the State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC), Gandhinagar, Sutrapada in Gir Somnath district received the highest rainfall of 71 mm (2.80 inches).

Between 6 am and 10 am, Vanthali in Junagadh district received 70 mm (2.76 inches), Maliya Hatina received 62 mm (2.44 inches), Kodinar in Gir Somnath received 54 mm (2.13 inches), Keshod in Junagadh received 45 mm (1.77 inches), and Olpad in Surat district received 38 mm (1.50 inches). In addition, 36 mm of rain fell in Talala, 34 mm in Wagra, 27 mm in Junagadh city, and 23 mm in Una.

Meanwhile, the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has issued a high wave alert for the coast of Devbhoomi Dwarka district through the NDEM portal. Waves of 3.4 to 3.6 metres (about 11 to 12 feet) are likely along the coast from Vadinar to Harshad from 11:30 pm on July 2 to 11:30 pm on July 3. During this period, fishermen, people involved in marine activities, and tourists visiting the coast for recreation have been advised to exercise special caution and avoid venturing into the sea unless necessary.

Due to heavy rain, waterlogging has occurred in many areas of Gir Somnath district. Devotees were seen facing difficulties due to the accumulation of rainwater and sewage near the Digvijay Dwar of the world-famous Somnath Temple. Areas including Satabazar, Subhash Road, S.T. Road, and Housing Society in Veraval city have also been reported to be waterlogged.

The impact of heavy rain is also being seen in Surat. A tanker got stuck after a road caved in near G-9 Circle in the Dindoli area. The incident sparked anger among local residents. Motorists also faced difficulties as the railway underpass near Vyara-Kanja Phatak was flooded in Vyara.

An incident of cracks developing in the CC road near Charnala Bridge on the Bhavnagar-Somnath National Highway near Rajula in Amreli district has also come to light. Meanwhile, scattered rain showers have been falling in Rajkot city since this morning, bringing down the temperature.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall across the state till July 5. Red and orange alerts have been issued for some districts. Wind speeds of 40 to 50 kmph and lightning are also likely during this period. DeshGujarat
