AI-Powered Smart Vehicle to Patrol Gandhinagar Roads Soon; To Detect Potholes, Garbage, Leakages, and More

Gandhinagar: In a major push towards smart governance, the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation (GMC) is set to launch an AI-powered “Smart Detector Vehicle” project aimed at identifying and resolving civic issues even before citizens file complaints.

The initiative is designed to create a proactive and complaint-free administrative model by using artificial intelligence to monitor roads and public infrastructure across the state capital.

Under the project, AI-equipped surveillance vehicle fitted with advanced computer vision and deep learning technology will patrol city roads at a fixed speed. The vehicle will be equipped with high-resolution 360-degree cameras and sensors mounted on the roof to scan roads and public spaces in real time.

According to officials, the AI system will be capable of detecting potholes, road cracks, damaged road markings, sewer overflows, drinking water leakages, roadside garbage, broken street lights, and footpath encroachments through image processing and sensor-based analysis.

Once a civic issue is identified, the system will automatically capture photographs along with GPS coordinates and measurements of the affected site. The data will then be transmitted directly to the Central Command and Control Centre, from where a work order will be sent within seconds to the concerned engineer or ward officer for immediate action.

Officials said the system will maintain digital time-stamped records, making it mandatory for officers to complete the work within the specified timeframe and upload a compliance report.

Speaking about the initiative, Standing Committee Chairman Gaurang Vyas said the corporation is working towards building a “complaint-free city” on the lines of its dust-free city campaign.

He said the AI-enabled vehicle will continuously monitor roads and public spaces across Gandhinagar and automatically report civic issues such as potholes, roadside garbage, tree trimming requirements, waterlogging, and sewer leakages, along with photographs, GPS locations, and measurements, to the concerned officials for swift action.
