Mercury Stays Above 40°C in Parts of Gujarat as Monsoon Wait Continues

Ahmedabad: Amid the wait for the official entry of the monsoon in the state, hot and humid weather continued in many areas on Tuesday, while light to moderate rain was recorded in some parts of South Gujarat. According to the Meteorological Department, favourable conditions are present for the southwest monsoon to advance into the coastal areas of Gujarat over the next two to three days.

Rainfall activity was seen in South Gujarat since Tuesday morning. Dang district received the highest rainfall of 56 mm. Kaprada in Valsad district received 37 mm and Ukai in Tapi district received 18 mm. Keeping in mind the possibility of heavy rain, strong winds and lightning, an alert has been issued by the Dang District Disaster Management Authority. People have been advised not to venture into open fields, stand under trees or remain in exposed areas during lightning activity, and not to cross low-lying bridges and causeways.

Currently, an upper-air cyclonic circulation is active over North Gujarat, while a trough line is extending from central Uttar Pradesh through Rajasthan to North Gujarat. Due to the influence of these systems, rainfall activity is likely to increase in the state in the coming days.
